I received a great message a couple of days ago, which I have permission to share with you.
From Gary M. Wallen in California:
“ I don’t expect you will remember me – but you’ll probably remember “Probe” in Los Angeles.
We had you perform twice, I think.
One of the times a special, surprise VIP knocked on the office door and asked if they could see you.
I was alone but asked if she (the guest) was expected – “No”
Scrambling in my head I asked if you would know her – “Yes”
So I said – “OK, im sorry but ill have to check first, would you please tell me your name?
She said – “I’m Dusty Springfield”
I looked her in the face and stammered – “Oh you certainly are”
Then apologised for having to close the door to check.
You were in the inner office…a few seconds later she was visiting with you.”
I love this story, and it absolutely did happen!
Dusty came along, unannounced to see my show at “Probe” and came backstage afterwards to meet me.
It’s great to hear Gary’s side of the story, and I’m sure Dusty would have found it hilarious when she was asked her name, and that Gary closed the door on her

Gary goes on to ask if I had any connection with the Dusty/Pet Shop Boys collaboration, and the answer is sadly not.
I have met Neil and Chris several times (and God knows I’d love to work with them myself) but the introduction was not via me.
My link to Dusty is via the late Victor Billings who back in the day managed Kiki Dee, Dusty and myself.
If it’s any consolation Gary, I was as stunned as you when Dusty rocked up at “Probe” that night.
I was and still am a huge Dusty fan
